St. Landry crash kills 72-year-old man

Louisiana State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 49 in St. Landry Parish on Wednesday.

Killed in the crash was John Prejean, 72, of Broussard, said a State Police news release.

The crash occurred about 10:30 a.m. on the northbound lanes of I-49. The release says Prejean was driving a 1992 Chevrolet truck when he struck the rear of an 18-wheeler driven by Michael Proctor, 48.

The release says Proctor’s truck had come to a stop because crews were re-striping the roadway.

Prejean was not wearing his seat belt and was killed in the crash. Proctor was not injured.
