  • One person displaced by fire on North 38th Street

    One person was displaced Friday when his home was damaged by an early morning fire, a spokesman with the Baton Rouge Fire Department said in a news release.

    Firefighters were called to 1248 N. 38th St. at 3:25 a.m., Barry Mounce said in the release. They had the fire under conrol by 3:41 a.m.

    The person who lived in the home was not there at the time of the fire but showed up as firefighters were working, Mounce said.

    Investigators suspect the housse was intentionally set on fire, Mounce said. Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Fire Department at (225) 354-1419.

  • I-110 has reopened

    Lanes on I-110 are now open.

    A wreck with injuries this morning at I-110 and Evangeline closed the Interstate for several hour.

    Emergency Medical Services transported one person to a local hospital.

  • One man killed, three others injured in shootout on Interstate 110

    One man was killed and three others were injured in an early morning shootout on Interstate 110 near the Weller Avenue Exit, a Baton Rouge police spokesman said in a news release.

    Officers patrolling the area at about 2 a.m. saw what appeared to be a stalled or crashed vehicle in the south-bound lanes of I-110, Capt. Rodney Adams said in the relase. Upon further investigation, officers found four shooting victims in and around the vehicle.

    All four were taken to local hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds, Adams said. One of the men, who has yet to be identified, died. The other three suffered non life-threatening inuries.

    The interstate where the shooting occured will be closed this morning while homicide detectives investigate the crime scene.

  • Woman found dead in North 28th Street Driveway

    Police are investigating the death of a woman found dead in a driveway at 1220 North 28th St. at 5:55 a.m. 
     
    The woman was partially clothed when police arrived and appears to have been in her 30s, said Cpl. L'Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.
     
    A man, who was standing over the woman, was taken into custody and is being questioned, McKneely said.

  • BR police identify shooting victim

    Baton Rouge police have identified the man killed this morning on North Marque Ann Drive as 30-year-old Lance Johnson of 26333 Millstone Road, Denham Springs.

    Officers found Johnson lying in the parking lot at 1819 Marque Ann Drive at 2:18 a.m., police spokesman Capt. Carl Kelley said in a news release.

    Police were called to the area to investigate a report of gunshots, Kelley said. When officers arrived, they found Johnson, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Kelly said.

    No arrests have been made and police do not have a motive for the shooting, Kelley said. But, witnesses saw a man wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans flee the scene, Kelley said.

  • Man found fatally shot on North Marque Ann Drive

    Baton Rouge police are investigating the early morning shooting of an unidentified 30-year-old man.

    Officers found the man lying in the parking lot at 1819 Marque Ann Drive after being called to the area to investigate a report of gunshots being fired, said police spokesman Capt. Carl Kelley in a news release. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

    No arrests have been made and police do not have a motive for the shooting, Kelley said. But, witnesses saw a man wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans flee the shooting scene.

  • Authorities book 4 people on DWI counts

    Authorities arrested at least four people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 3 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, booking records show. Those booked and the counts against them:

    • Sixto Reyes, 29, 9989 Bluebonnet Place, first-offense DWI, no proof of insurance, improper lane usage and driver’s license required.
    • Devin Rivette, 22, 12103 Cline Drive, Baker, first-offense DWI, possession of marijuana, distribution/manufacturing Schedule III drugs, two counts of possession/distribution/manufacturing Schedule II drugs and speeding.
    • Ryan Rome, 25, 911 E. Tom Stokes Road, first-offense DWI, speeding and reckless operation of a vehicle.
    • McKenzy Leah Stewart, 28, 20125 Tucker Road, Zachary, second-offense DWI, improper lane usage, driver’s license suspended/revoked, failure to register vehicle and flight from an officer.
