East Feliciana Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for two prisoners who escaped from the parish work-release facility sometime after midnight today, said Parish Prison Warden Ray Newman.

The escapees are Melvin C. Davis, 31, and Eric C. Harvey, 24, both of Houma. Newman said Davis measures 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He was serving time for a drug charge and was scheduled for release in March 2010.

Harvey weighs 230 pounds and measures 6 feet 2 inches tall, Newman said. He was serving time for illegal possession of stolen things and possession with intent to distribute cocaine and was slated for release in June 2010.

Newman said it was unclear exactly how the men escaped from the minimum security facility, but said he believed they had help from the outside.

The men may have connections in the Baton Rouge and Baker areas as well as in their hometown of Houma, Newman said.

Both men had been in the work-release program for around six months, Newman said.

“We’re out looking for them and beating the bushes,” Newman said.

Anyone with information regarding the escapees’ whereabouts is asked to call the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 683-5459.
