Special Teaching Packets

All schools receiving federal money are now required to hold an educational program pertaining to the United States Constitution during the fall each year. In order to help schools meet this requirement, Educational Services has created a Constitution Packet for teachers. The Constitution packet includes two teaching guides, twelve posters, and will help your teachers utilize the newspaper as they teach about democracy, the founding fathers, our government, and the Constitution.

The Advocate’s Educational Services Department is offering a Louisiana Packet which includes three books and seven posters. The teaching guide, Louisiana - Steeped in History was designed so that teachers and students may discover the daily newspaper as a relevant, thought provoking, and timely instructional tool while studying Louisiana history and celebrating the charm and heritage of the state. The teaching guide, Living in Louisiana’s White House, The Governors’ Children from 1930 - 1963, was designed to let teachers and students discover more about the Governors’ families who lived in the Old Governor’s Mansion on North Boulevard in Baton Rouge. The book, Louisiana’s Cypress Bayou Elves, was written and illustrated by Charles A. Lemoine.  This printing was done in memory of Charles Lemoine. Charles, an artist with Capital City Press for a number of years, loved the outdoors and loved children, though he had no children of his own.  It was because of this love that he decided to write and illustrate a series of children’s books.  Unfortunately, Charles was able to complete only this one book prior to his early death of natural causes. The seven posters included in the packet feature the ten flags that have flown over Louisiana, plus popular images from our unique state.
